If you're visiting this page, you probably know me from the TMBG chat room, an IRC where I spend way too much of my time. When people ask me from whence I derived my handle, I usually have to make something up because I really don't remember. Back in the days of "Old School" chat, I came in as "Vanth," named for the hero of the Jim Starlin comic, Dreadstar. Then, for some reason, I started using "Fiberglass." I generally tell people that it is because I used to smoke menthol cigarettes, which, according to popular scuttlebutt, contain fiberglass. Go figure! I am a 25-year old weirdo living in Atlanta, GA, who seems to have no visible direction for his life, although I do enjoy complaining a fair amount. Okay, I do have some aspirations, such as becoming a professional comicbook artist or a singer in a rock band, but currently I manage the Books/Music/Movies department at the local Target. Woo-hoo!

If you've chatted with me in the past, you know just how silly and irrational I can be. If not, let me tell you that I am silly and irrational! I am also guilty of saying things that make no sense whatsoever and shocking other chatters with off-color remarks. But, inherently, I'm a really nice guy. Let's see...I am separated from my wife of two years, pending divorce. I do not want this to frighten any prospective ladies, because there is no chance of reconciliation, and I am ready to meet someone else. I would like to make it clear that it was ALL HER FAULT. She cheated on me several times. But enough of that shit.
| What Fiber Likes | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
What floats Fiber's proverbial boat? Interestingly enough, quite a lot, an eclectic mix, if you will. To wit: | Egyptology: I don't know exactly why, but I am completely obsessed with ancient Egypt. I think I first discovered this incredible old world culture around the age of three. My grandfather used to watch a lot of National Geographic specials on PBS, so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it. Seeing a piece of Egyptian art makes my heart race. I think the ideal job for me would be curator of a museum with a sizeable Egyptian exhibit. If Egyptology interests you, I would be glad to discuss it with you at length. Art: I am an artist, so it only makes sense that I have an immense appreciation for art. All kinds. From Michelangelo to Lichtenstein. My favorite artists include Raphael, Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol, Picasso, Dali, Jackson Pollock, Rousseau, and Carravagio, just to name a few. Literature: I love books. I don't even have to read them (although I do read a lot); just looking at them is exciting. Some of my favorite writers include Kurt Vonnegut, Mark Leyner, Agatha Christie, Christian Jacq, Douglas Adams, John Kennedy Toole, and William S. Burroughs. I also like classic lit such as Beowulf, The Odyssey, and mythology of all kinds. Anime: That Japanese animation, for those of you laypeople. I became interested in this quirky hobby back in 94 when a friend of mine showed me a film called "Appleseed." I was immediately hooked. My favorite titles include Slayers, Urusei Yatsura, Magic Knight Rayearth, Record of Lodoss War, El Hazard, Dirty Pair, and Bubblegum Crisis. Comedy: More than anything, I like to laugh. There are few things more satisfying than a good guffaw. I am partial to British comedy including such great series as Monty Python and Red Dwarf. In American comedy, I couldn't do without Seinfeld or The Simpsons. RPG/Fantasy: I am completely devoted to sword & sorcery. If not for a man named J.R.R. Tolkien, my life would have much less meaning (and I don't have much to begin with). I love The Lord of the Rings and all of the great things it spawned, such as the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game. I am constantly searching used bookstores for copies of "gamebooks" because no one seems to publish them anymore. Dammit! Music: I like almost any kind of music excluding rap and country. I am partial to bands who utilize good lyrics, such as The Police, and, most notably, THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS. I also like Pet Shop Boys, Shonen Knife, classic REM, and Nirvana. Classical is a good diversion, as well. Classic Video Games: I am a classic video game junkie! I have to admit that N64 and Playstation do little for me. I prefer the Atari VCS and its ilk. My roommate and I have downloaded "emulators" for these classic systems for play on the Mac. If you would like more info on this front, just let me know. Sometimes I log into the chat as "Atari VCS" or "Intellivision" just as a joke :). Comic Books: I am a collector, not a fanboy. Get it right! Ok, sometimes I behave like a fanboy, especially when the latest issue of "Battle Chasers" comes in, but that's rare. LOL. I am partial to comics from 87 back, especially Marvels (Spider-Man, Hulk, Avengers) and DC's from the early 70's (Batman, Justice League America, etc.). I have a collection of over 2000 books. My current obsession is the Silver Age. I know things about comics that will make your head implode. LOL. I also love manga (Japanese comics), especially the works of Masamune Shirow, Rumiko Takahashi, and Kia Asamiya. My current favorite comic is "Maison Ikkoku," a romantic comedy. Kevin Smith films: You know the big three: Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy. And come October, Dogma will be added to that list. Kevin Smith is a brilliant film-maker with a great sense of character and an even better sense of humor. A comic fan as well, he writes comics that tie in to his movies, for those of us who want to know more. If you haven't seen these films, please do so now! Quote of the Day: "If there were fewer robbers, there wouldn't be quite so many of them."
